MS. Uzma Khalid
(Ladybird- Foundation Class Teacher)
Greetings! My name is Uzma Khalid, I hail from Pakistan but born and brought up in UAE. I have been an Early Childhood Educator for 15 years. Prior to coming here, I taught in Raffles Emirates Hills Nursery for 10 years. I have taught different age groups, including six years in an Early Years Foundation Stage 1 classroom. I earned my Diploma in Montessori Pedagogy from Montessori Centre International, London. I also have a Post-Graduation Certificate in Education International from the University of Nottingham.
I have always been in love with young children with a natural curiosity to figure out how the world works. Their eagerness to explore, discover and figure things out fascinated me, perhaps I was the same kind which led me to follow my passion. It was my destiny calling, I became an Early Years teacher. My many years of teaching experience have helped me develop a set of beliefs about how I can best help young minds to learn and grow.
From the very first moment I step into a classroom, I start to build trust with my students. I believe students should first trust their teacher in order to have a healthy learning atmosphere. I have become aware that teaching is not about teaching, it’s about learning.
I believe that each child has unique strengths, varied prior language learning experiences and preferred learning styles, which is why my instruction is differentiated to provide enough challenge and enough support for all children to build on success and develop positive attitudes about learning. I understand, emotional engagement is the key to all powerful learning that is why I bring love, laughter, passion, music and meaningful project work into my classroom.
Creating an inclusive and enabling environment is essential in promoting high standards of early years education. My mission statement within my practice is to encourage children to have freedom to make informed choices and take controlled risks. I believe that allowing children to have the freedom to explore is vital as it allows them to develop their personality, curiosity, imagination, language and social skills. These are all skills that will help them to create their own understanding of a very complex world.
My teaching will be tailored to each student’s preferred ways of learning so that they can all achieve to the best of their ability and I will always strive to be the best educator that I can be.
